Homemade, Healthy, Yogurt-based Salad Dressing. Undressed.

I turn into my grandmother when I tie one on. An apron. I hear her guide my hand over the salt, Not too much, she says. As I stir, I check my arm to see if it has her adorable wiggle waggle yet.

In an effort to delay that jiggle, I work out and eat healthy. I cook as much as I can, using natural products unencumbered by additives. I lived through the eighties so there are enough chemicals bouncing around my in body from the disco daze. To make it to and through my eighties, I'm especially mindful of the ingredients in any prepared foods I buy.

This easy, healthy salad dressing recipe is a staple in my fridge.

The tangy, sweet taste will zest up any salad. The creamy texture (from guilt-free yogurt) gives you the luxurious feeling of velvety richness. In reality it's low calorie, low sodium, low fat. High in flavor.

My favorite thing about making my own dressing is that I get to control the contents. I use what I like and what's good for my body.

1/2 cup fat free yogurt
1/3 cup orange juice
1/4 cup white Balsamic vinegar
1/4 cup EVOO
1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
1 teaspoon honey
1 teaspoon grated ginger
Salt and pepper to taste

Container that closes tightly
Measuring cups
Zester, peeler and knife for ginger
Cutting board

1. Add ingredients to the jar.

2. Close the jar and shake to emulsify.

How about that cute security dog in the background doing his perimeter search?

When you make this recipe, feel free to vary the ingredients to fit your taste. I've added turmeric; I've skipped the ginger. Did I skip the gym one too many times? News flash: We all have a bikini body; it's called our body.

When you make this recipe, let me know what flavor variations you discover.

Let's all bid bye bye to Kraft and say hello to home crafted salad dressing. Renowned chef and author Michael Pollan advises, “Don’t eat anything your great-grandmother wouldn’t recognize as food.”

My grandmother used to say,"We don't need all that fancy store bought junk. We don't know what's in it."

I'm here to keep her message going.

  1. Amazing that you are still carrying the message of your grandma!

  2. Thank you for reading and commenting, Alex. Yes - she stays with me.

I love your comments (except from you, you crazy)! Just submit them and I'll publish as soon as I finish my snack.
